Craftsman lawn mowers are excellent value for money and the Craftsman DYS 4500 is no exception. One of the best riding lawn mowers in its class the Craftsman DYS 4500 has a high level of performance and functionality. The easy to use controls and the huge 54" cutting deck make the Craftsman DYS 4500 stand out from other similar riding mowers.
A 26 hp Kohler Pro engine powers the Craftsman DYS 4500 giving it a strong performance on inclines and when mowing through long grass or weed thickets. Despite the high power it is fairly quiet although it has only an average top speed.
A single foot pedal is used for forward and reverse operation and the automatic transmission is smooth and responsive. There is also a cruise control, ideal to use on obstacle free large areas. The turning radius, at 16" is a little wide compared to other riding mowers but the wide cutting deck makes up for this.The cutting deck is adjustable to between 1" and 4" with 6 increments and is easy to set. At the lower settings the cut is very even and smooth but at higher settings it tends to be a little uneven. It can also give an uneven cut when turning quickly on hills at the higher settings.
The frame of this riding mower is well made and it is tough enough to handle long grass and weed thickets. The large cutting deck gives a fast, even cut under most conditions. It can also be used as a snowblower with the optional attachment and poly carts can be attached for hauling materials about the yard. The engine is powerful enough for most tasks although a little underpowered for very heavy duty uses. A mulching blade and bagging systems are also available.
