honda 216k5vka self propelled gas lawnmowerThe Honda HRR216K5VKA is a self-propelled gas lawnmower with a good range of features. The engine is a Honda GCV160 overhead valve/overhead cam engine that has been designed for lower vibration and noise than side valve engines. It is easy to start and has cleaner emissions as it burns fuel more efficiently compared to the usual side valve engines. There is an automatic choke system that allows very easy starts from cold.

A Smart Drive transmission system with variable speed transmission gives you the options of using either your thumb or palm for control. We like this option as we find using thumbs alone can be uncomfortable over long periods. The Smart Drive has five settings so it's easy to set it to suit you. The ride is smooth due to the ball bearing wheels at the rear and the top speed of 3.8 mph is easily controlled.

A twin blade cutting system with 4 cutting surfaces chops up the cuttings into tiny pieces that are easily distributed on your lawn by the side discharge. This is a big advantage as there are no ugly clumps of clippings on your lawn and the lawn is mulched and fertilised while you mow. You can also bag the clippings with a 2.4 bushel bag that is easy to attach and remove. The one aspect of this mower that we don't like is the cutting height adjustment on each wheel. Unlike many mowers that have a single leaver each wheel has to be adjusted separately. It is fairly easy to do but annoying nonetheless. The levers adjust the cutting height between 3/4" and 3 1/4" in six increments which is more than adequate.

Overall a good performing gas lawnmower with a premium Honda engine and some good features.

Advantages

Low emission powerful engine, good control using the Smart Drive, smooth ride, twin blade cutting system giving fine cuttings

Disadvantages

Separate cutting height adjustments on each wheel
