troybiltgardentractor

The Troy-Bilt Big Red Horse GT is a budget priced garden tractor. In fact it is the cheapest garden tractor from the popular manufacturers. It will still do a good job but one downside is that the engine, a Briggs and Stratton 23 hp two cylinder model, does not have the usual long life expectancy that engines on other, more expensive models have. The power is adequate for the job and with regular maintenance the engine should last for many years.

Features of the Troy-Bilt Big Red Horse are large 22" rear wheels, 2-speed variable transmission, cruise control and an electrical power take off. Optional extras for lawn mowing include a mulching kit and rear collection triple bagging system. For other tasks a snow thrower and dozer blade are available. There are also the options of a sunshade and bumper. Attachments from other manufacturers may also fit.

There have also been some cost cutting in the manufacture of the deck and frame. The front axle is made from cast iron (unlike pricier models which usually use steel) and the deck is of 12 gauge steel. Both of these will not affect the performance but can have an impact on the life of the tractor. The cutting width is a very respectable 50" with a six position adjustment, from 1 1/2" to 4" via a lever. The turning range is a little high at 21" due to the longer wheel base. Discharge is to the side.

At m.r.p. of $2,099.00 the Troy-Bilt Big Red Horse is food value for money and performs well. The only disadvantage of purchasing a budget priced garden tractor is in the lifetime of the machine but with good maintenance it should last for many years.

Advantages

Price, power adequate for most garden work

Disadvantages

Cheaper materials used in construction, large turning radius
